Huilei Dong, Ph.D., is an accomplished researcher in biochemistry currently serving as a Special Research Fellow and Independent Principal Investigator at Nanchang University. He earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Xiamen University and has been recognized as a Provincial-Level Talent in Jiangxi Province. His work is supported by competitive grants including the NSFC Young Scientist Fund. He has built an outstanding publication record, with research appearing in high-impact journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) and Angewandte Chemie. His expertise covers peptide-based targeted drug design, self-assembling peptides for drug delivery, and the development of functional peptides with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory applications.

1. Design and Development of Peptide-based Targeted Drugs: Utilizing disulfide-directed cyclization to create cell-penetrating and targeted bifunctional ultra-stable bicyclic peptides, which serve as targeting ligands for Peptide-Drug Conjugates (PDCs). Targeting sequences are identified against highly expressed cancer-specific cell surface proteins using mRNA display/phage display technologies, aiming to develop specific PDC drugs for various malignancies.

2. Functional Peptide Assemblies for Biomedical Applications: Engineering smart, redox-responsive self-assembling peptide biomaterials using disulfide bonds as molecular switches. Exploring their applications in biomedicine, including cell therapy and efficient nucleic acid drug delivery.

Development and Application of Functional Peptides (e.g., Antimicrobial, Anti-inflammatory): Screening bioactive peptides from natural sources and employing computer-aided drug design (CADD) and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize their structures for improved drug-like properties.
